All my life, I have been stuck in a cage, only to be let out to perform tricks on a stage.
I grew up in a forest with my mother and dad; I was always happy, not sad.
I would wake up in the morning, cuddled up to my mother, and then swing in the trees with my sister and brother.
Then one terrible night, humans awakened me with the forest alight.
My mother told me we had to run; this wasn’t playtime this wasn’t fun.
I saw my mother fall to the ground; she wasn’t moving or making no sound.
I was young, alone, confused, and scared; my calls to my dad could not be heard.
Then they put me in a tiny cage, trying to get out in a frantic rage.
I then went to the village and onto the town, where they would dress me up to perform tricks like a clown.
This has continued for a very long time, so I decided to put pen to paper and make these words rhyme.
Chimpanzee, set me free.
